On July 8th, 2021 a water main ruptured in the area surrounding the ScaleMatrix San Diego Data Center and flooded a number of underground tunnels and conduits. This event caused a loss of power to a number of SDGE customers. Service went down @ 8:08 PM 7/8/2021 PST, and restored 11:09 AM 7/10/2021 PST.
Immediately following the outage, calls were made to Collicut and Global Power Group, Inc. Analysis began that evening on Friday with extensive physical and programmatic testing on Saturday. The root causes were the following: dual generator failure and incorrect database programming.
ScaleMatrix is currently in talks with Collicut and Global Power about additional maintenance activities that will better detect and prevent future outages. ScaleMatrix will begin conducting live load shifting during annual testing cycles for all critical power delivery systems. They will also be conducting power design changes, capacity augmentation and upgrading equipment.
